How do I take part?
1. Fill in the Artist Registration Form available at http://www.openstudiosinthewest.net/ Successful applications will be notified shortly after the registration closing date Friday 23 September 2011.
2. Pay your fee in full at your local council office by Monday 3 October 2011 (official payment forms will be forward to you after registration).
3. Provide your promotional image by Friday 23 September 2011.
4. Provide your public liability insurance certificate by Monday 3 October 2011 (see below).
5. Attend the Open Studios Artists Workshop on Wednesday 2 November 2011, 6.30pm at Footscray Community Arts Centre.
6. Open your studio to art lovers and appreciators on 26 & 27 November 2011!

    Open Studios is a program located in Maribyrnong, Hobsons Bay and Wyndham City regions, over the last weekend in November. 
    All creative types are invited to open their studios to the general public with demonstrations, workshops and curatorial talks.
    Important dates

    Artists registrations and fees need to be paid in full by Friday 23 September 2011. Those who do not pay the participation fee by this date will forfeit their spot in the Open Studios 2011 program. See information below for rates and details of what these fees cover.

    Attendance is required for all confirmed participating artists at the Artist Workshop on Wednesday 2 November 2011, 6.30pm (see below for more information).

    Studios are open 26-27 November 2011. Participants make an absolute commitment to open on the days and times that will be published as indicated on your application form. Be prepared to demonstrate or discuss how you go about making some aspect of your work. Be willing to answer questions about your process and materials during the weekend.

    Artist Fees
    $45 for individual artists
    $40 per person for groups of artists or studios of 2-5 people
    $35 per person for groups or studios of 6 or more

    All fees include GST and are non-refundable

    The registration fee is your contribution towards the cost of publicity and administration of the Open Studios 2011 event. Open Studios is subsidised by Wyndham, Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong Councils.The purpose of your fee is to contribute to:

    • Event management
    • Marketing and publicity material production and distribution
    • Media release and paid advertising to the arts industry media including: Arts Hub, Arts Almanac, NAVA, Craft Vic, The Age, The Herald Sun, Trouble magazine and local radio and newspapers
    • An Artists and Makers Open Studio information pack which will include media information, a health and safety guide and a event guide.

    With respect to other artists who are taking part each artist and/or studio must display work only from the artist/s who have paid and registered to take part in this event.

    Money orders and cheques should be made payable to Council. All credit cards are acceptable except Amex. Payments, including cash, may be made in person at some local Council offices. However, please check for the best way to pay in your municipality by phoning:

    Providing a promotional image

    When you apply online you will be asked to attach a image of your work to the form. This image may be used by Open Studios to market the event and in the program guide. Please provide a high quality digital image (250dpi, 1MB) of an artwork or an image of your studio, suitable for promotional purposes. 


    Artist Workshop

    Wednesday 2 November 2011
    6.30pm, Footscray Community Arts Centre, 45 Moreland Street, Footscray

    This workshop is your opportunity to meet the other Open studios 2011 artists and hear professional artist speak.  At this workshop artists receive information and promotional materials that are critical to your participation in the event including street signs, complimentary Open Studios 2011 programs and additional promotional materials. In addition we will discuss demonstrating, distribution of the Open Studios 2011 program and other tips on how to have the most successful event possible.


    Art for Sale

    Participating artists and makers are welcome to sell their artwork. Sales as a result of open studios are the responsibility of the participating artist, group, studio or gallery. No commission is taken.


    Public Liability

    To take part in the event all participants must have public liability insurance of a minimum of 10 million dollars. If you do not have this insurance please contact us and we can let you know of places that provide these services at a very reasonable rate for artists. Contents insurance is the responsibility of participating artists.

    Participants must have supply a copy of thier public liability insurance certificate (min of $10 million). If you do not have P/L insurance it's not difficult to get and we know programs that offer discounted rates for artists, don't let this put you off! Some organisations that provide artists with affordable Insurance are: NAVA, Regional Arts Victoria, Artworkers.org, Duck for Cover, and Ausdance.
