The Open Studios program began in 2007 when a group of artists in Footscray, Yarraville and surrounds, who were keen to showcase their work to a wider audience, put together a group of 18 artists to open their doors. They felt that by opening their studios, places where they live, they work and places that inspire them, they would give audiences an insight into their practices and encourage patronage and passion for what they do. They were right!
Open Studios has grown each year and in 2009 the program expanded its reach to include artists living and working within four municipalities in Melbourne's West.
Artists' studios will be open from 26-27 November 2011.
In 2010 the Open Studios project included programming that gives a greater context to what our artists do. The program will include not only interesting demonstrations and artists talks but curator talks too. Watch this space for more information closer to the event.
